CNBC.com seeks news associate

CNBC.com is seeking a news associate for its on-line business news operations. This is a junior level full-time position on site at Englewood Cliffs, N.J.

Assist CNBC.com news desk in processing copy for the daily news flow. Scan wires and review on-air material for generation of Web content.

Find background information on a wide range of business and financial news stories, using a variety of sources such as the Internet, newspapers, and magazines. Assist producers with basic story production and packaging. Generate multimedia elements and work on individual projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

– Candidates should have a degree in journalism, relevant work experience, and a serious interest in business news
– A Bachelor’s degree and working knowledge of financial and/or business news content.
– Strong knowledge of the Internet and newsroom systems including iNews.
– Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under deadline pressure.
– Solid written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work independently.
– There will be a required written test.

Desired Characteristics

– Willingness to learn new technologies.
– Ideal candidates will be highly organized and accurate by nature.
– Knowledge of the CNBC news systems is a plus
– Wall Street/financial background is also a plus.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
