CNBC.com seeks a copy editor

As a member of the CNBC.com copy desk, the copy editor is the last line of defense to ensure that our stories are of the highest quality possible.

Whether it’s a long feature or short breaking news bulletin, we will look to the copy editor to ensure our stories are free of errors and typos and have proper context, balance, consistency and clarity. The copy editor plays an essential part in producing compelling coverage that is helping to expand our growing readership.

Description of potential responsibilities:

Responsibilities could include, but are not limited to: reading stories quickly and thoroughly, sometimes before they are published, sometimes afterward. The copy editor must be able to work quickly and under pressure, confident that our stories meet the highest standards.

Qualifications/Requirements

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree, a strong knowledge of AP style and business news and at least five years of experience in daily journalism as a copy editor. The position requires someone who is enthusiastic and patient and has positive communications skills. The successful candidate must be able to quickly edit complicated stories to ensure they are understandable not only to financial insiders, but also to a broad readership. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively with a staff of writers and editors, ranging from industry veterans to early career employees.

He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
