Versatile Reporter to cover high school and local college sports in the south suburbs for the Daily Southtown, part of the Chicago Tribune Media Group. We’re looking for a skilled writer and storyteller who can produce pieces that go beyond just the numbers and statistics while juggling other beat items like rankings.

What you will do:

• The main beats will be high school football, basketball and baseball, with occasional local college sports and enterprise stories
• Writing season previews, compiling all-area teams and producing columns are all core parts of the job
• Our top priority is to tell compelling stories, regardless of sport
• General assignment and breaking news also will play a factor

What you will bring:

• A proven track record of writing featured game stories, enterprise features and columns that combine clean, crisp and creative writing with accurate reporting; getting names and facts correct are a must
• The goal will be to develop the sources in becoming the go-to, No. 1 authority on high school sports in the south suburbs
• Candidates should expect consistent night and weekend work
