Chattanooga Times Free Press seeks a digital producer and journalist

The Chattanooga Times Free Press is seeking a digital producer and journalist who will be part of a team of five that manages the newspaper’s digital content across a number of platforms to ensure that our vital journalism is available and engaging for our online audiences.

The job includes social media and website management, producing digital content, writing and adjusting headlines to be SEO-friendly and adding multimedia to stories as well as handling breaking news.

At the Times Free Press, digital producers are journalists who:

  • are responsible on a daily basis for posting stories and general coverage from our reporters on the website with the idea of being timely and competitive and increasing page views, engagement and the amount of time readers spend on com.
  • produce and/or post interactive features, maps, graphics, photo galleries, listicle and video.
  • must have an engaging social media voice and be competent in publishing the newspaper’s stories across various social media platforms in a way that feels timely and lively and be comfortable engaging with readers online.
  • work with editors and reporters across all sections of the newsroom to coordinate digital coverage; help formulate ideas for digital-only content; and turn a breaking news story on a tight deadline.
  • function as the last line of defense in ensuring that our content is accurate and grammatically sound before being posted on our website and on social media channels.
  • have strong news judgment and are open to learning new things amidst an ever changing digital landscape.

Video and multimedia skills are a plus.
