Charlotte Observer seeks health care/personal finance reporter

The Charlotte Observer is looking for a driven, energetic reporter to cover the Affordable Care Act and other issues that affect our readers’ wallets.

You’ll focus intensely on the Affordable Care Act, going beyond the partisan rancor to show how health care policy affects the finances of real people — those who are sick, or on fixed incomes, or who are single and healthy, or who run small businesses. More broadly, you’ll cover a range of wallet issues, holding business and political leaders accountable.

You’ll scrutinize mortgage practices, ask why cable and utility bills are rising, and shine a light on the hidden costs that lurk in everything from the cost of a house to the price of a funeral.

You’ll bring all these issues home, helping our readers see who wants their money — and equip them to make smart decisions about it.

If you’d like to be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team in the Carolinas’ largest newsroom, please send your work history and at least four examples of your best work to obsjobs@gmail.com. Put “ACA reporter” in subject line. Apply by Friday, August 11.

Four-year college degree preferred; previous experience in a daily newsroom required.
