Central Penn Business Journal seeks an executive editor

Central Penn Business Journal and Lehigh Valley Business, both serving business professionals for over 30 years are seeking an Executive Editor to join our award-winning news organization covering business, and state government in central and eastern Pennsylvania. Organizationally, we are making a sincere effort to create an equitable, welcoming, and inclusive culture. We are seeking leaders who both understand and can mitigate the impact of unconscious bias in all aspects of the workplace.

What skills does the job require?

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or a related field
  • 5+ years of editorial management and leadership experience.
  • Niche product experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of business and state government news coverage
  • Strong computer skills and digital news management.  Including but not limited to: Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe InCopy, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Reader and Acrobat, and internet research skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Ability to build strong relationships with key business leaders.

What will you be Responsible for?

  • Managing the vision for our brands and developing new growth opportunities.
  • Building paid subscribers and audience through essential, unique content.
  • Managing a small but nimble newsroom
  • Managing the content, navigability and readership growth of our websites
  • Continually working on features and innovations to serve readers and build paid audience.
  • Serving as one of the hosts and thought leaders for webinars, roundtables and live and virtual events.
  • Keeping on top of industry innovations and trends.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of professional ethics.
  • Working closely with the group publisher / sales manager to create products to grow revenue and our brand.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
