CBS Television Stations seeks a FT weekend/digital meteorologist/MSJ

CBS Sacramento is seeking a full-time MSJ weekend evening/ digital meteorologist to join our expanding team. This candidate must have a passion for weather and climate with the ability to create compelling content told through the CBS13 Getting Answers and First Alert Weather brands. Our ideal candidate should have a proven and demonstrated ability to comfortably, confidently & conversationally, communicate with interviewees and viewers across all platforms (linear and digital).

Responsibilities will include:

  • Weekend weather coverage (nightside) along with producing news and weather content across all digital platforms, including the 24/7 CBS Stream during the week.
  • This position will also play an integral role during impactful weather events and may be assigned to tag team coverage in studio or in the field.
  • Occasional MSJ reporting in the field will be required on an “as-needed” basis as determined by the News Director.
  • This candidate will be responsible for keeping a strong weather presence on all digital platforms by creating and promoting engaging content.
  • This position requires strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and organize multiple priorities.
  • Our ideal candidate must have a flexible schedule and be willing to fill-in if other meteorologists are sick or on vacation. This candidate will work directly under the News Director, Assistant News Director, and the Chief Meteorologist.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic meteorology and ability to create a weather forecast
  • Strong social media and computer skills
  • Demonstrated on-camera skills
  • Shows strong enthusiasm and passion for weather and climate related stories
  • Candidate must be able to report scripted and unscripted news & weather in both live and pre-recorded formats
  • Candidate must be able to guide viewers smoothly through breaking news and weather situations with a calm demeanor
  • Ability to understand and effectively execute the First Alert weather brand and franchises
  • Ability to work rapidly, accurately and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to gather news content and basic camera and editing skills

Additional Qualifications:

  • Prior experience forecasting and presenting weather on-air.
  • Prior knowledge of WSI MAX preferred but working knowledge of TV weather graphics required.
  • Prior on-air reporting experience as a multimedia journalist preferred.
  • Experience reporting in the field with both live trucks and backpack streaming video preferred.
  • Strong writing skills and understanding of television news and entertainment reporting techniques are essential.
  • Degree in atmospheric science or meteorology degree (or in process of earning one) required
  • AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) or National Weather Association (NWA) preferred.

Hiring Salary Range: $70,000.00 – 80,000.00.
