The CBS MoneyWatch reporter is responsible for pitching and writing a range of business, financial and economic stories for CBSNews.com, including covering breaking news. The role requires a keen interest in business and financial news, experience working in a fast-paced online news environment, and ability to juggle multiple assignments on deadline.
Responsibilities:
- Pitch, report and write a range of business, financial and economic stories, including both news and enterprise pieces
- Cover breaking news as needed
- Generate a steady flow of compelling story ideas on the most important and trending issues of the day
- Use web analytics data to inform story selection
Qualifications:
- You have 3+ years of experience in a digital breaking news environment and proven ability to react quickly as news develops
- You are well-versed in business and financial news, from interpreting economic trends to investigating topics related to personal finance
- You are a skilled writer adept at producing both short news stories and longer narrative articles
- You are comfortable writing on deadline
- You have the confidence and authority to drive coverage across a range of topics, including corporate strategy, personal finance, technology, labor policy and workplace issues
- You are intellectually curious and enjoy explaining financial and economic concepts to a mass audience
- You can turn a general idea into a well-crafted, cleanly written story
- You are comfortable working with data
- You are a team player who enjoys collaborating with colleagues
- You are familiar with analytics platforms such as Google Analytics, Omniture and Chartbeat
- You have experience optimizing stories and headlines for search and know how to use Google Trends to inform your content
Hiring Salary Range: $$60,000 – $95,000. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies.
