Chicago Public Media is one of the nation’s largest and most respected NPR-member organizations and is home to WBEZ 91.5 FM, This American Life, Sound Opinions, and Vocalo. We serve a listening audience of nearly 500,000 and broadcasts throughout Chicago and the surrounding regions.
We have an innovative company culture and state-of-the-art facilities. In addition to studios at Navy Pier, we have reporters stationed at four neighborhood bureaus located in the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Segal Family Foundation, Chicago Public Media has an opportunity for a business reporting internship.
Our future intern will gain exposure to a major market news room, and learn solid foundations of public radio style journalism covering Chicago’s vibrant business community. As part of their experience, the intern will learn broadcast news writing, how to report short news items for local newscasts and publish related content for web. By the end of the internship, the intern will have learned how to edit audio, and report news features that will broadcast on air and online.
Extra consideration will be given to applicants currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from a journalism program with a concentration in business reporting. Potential interns should be interested in stories beyond the current price of pork bellies and corporate mergers, and have a deep interest in Chicago and the surrounding communities. Prior exposure to broadcast journalism is helpful but not required. Print majors are welcome to apply.
