The Capital Journal in Pierre, SD is seeking a different kind of editor and we’re willing to pay well for the right one. The Capital Journal is published twice weekly in print and seven days a week online and serves Hughes and Stanley County communities.
We’re seeking an editor who will be writing as well as editing right alongside two multi-beat reporters who will also be well compensated. If you’re flexible and can hustle (and lead the same kind of team), you should apply.
This is the perfect position for someone who wants to focus on creating quality content for the community. You could be covering a dog parade in the morning and talking to the governor that afternoon — community news at its finest.
The job is as challenging as it is rewarding. The editor writes, edits, works with our pagination team, and is often the face of the paper to the community. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to improve the operation, which is recruiting two multi-beat reporters (including sports) who will need a great leader.
In addition to our legacy print products, we have a strong digital presence — that includes social media, email newsletters, a mobile app, and our flagship website: capjournal.com. Our website is an award-winner and the third-largest newspaper website in South Dakota.
Being a first-class digital newsroom is a priority for us and you can help make that happen.
The Capital Journal is owned by Wick Communications, a family-owned local media company based in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Salary: $60,000
This is a full-time, salaried position with full benefits, including medical and vision insurance, and a 401k retirement plan. Please send your resume and clips to jeffrey.hartley@capjournal.com.
