BuzzFeed is looking for a business reporter to join BuzzFeed News in New York, covering the technology industry with a focus on New York City and East Coast tech companies.
New York City’s role as a global capital for finance, media and advertising means the city is now home to a distinct set of tech and internet companies, as well as many of the investors and ad buyers that keep the lights on in Silicon Valley.
The reporter will cover the most important and exciting players in the NYC tech scene, as well as the interplay between New York and San Francisco. They will have a keen eye for how Madison Avenue and Wall Street intersect with the tech industry, and in many cases are having their businesses redefined by it. They will also, on occasion, cover big breaking news stories in the industry, particularly in hours when their Pacific time zone colleagues are still getting out of bed.
Responsibilities:
- Identify the most important and exciting tech companies in New York, and generate exclusive reporting on them
- Keep an eye on other East Coast tech centers, including Boston and Washington, D.C.
- Understand and report on how NYC’s finance and advertising players work with the tech industry, both in New York and Silicon Valley
- Cover major breaking news stories in the tech industry
Requirements:
Experience reporting on the technology, advertising or media industries
Experience in financial journalism a big plus, including ability to analyze financial statements and other corporate filings
A great story sense: The reporter will have a huge industry all to themselves; choosing which stories to follow and which to leave alone will be crucial.
