BusinessDen seeks a reporter to launch government beat

December 7, 2020

Posted by Chris Roush

BusinessDen.com, Denver, Colorado’s homepage for daily business news, is searching for a motivated reporter with experience to join our newsroom in the Mile High City.

You will build a new beat for our newsroom, focusing on local government in Denver and surrounding municipalities. Other outlets cover these areas, so the ideal candidate is someone who can find holes in the current news flow, and who understands what a business audience is interested in.

You will also contribute on our other beats, from commercial real estate to restaurants.

We expect two crisply written business stories per day from a reporter with a natural curiosity, a proven work ethic and a fierce competitive streak.

The right applicant will have a knack for digging up scoops by using public documents and, critically, developing sources. We expect you to meet up with key players on your beat and check in with them regularly, not just when you need a quote for a story.

Basic qualifications:

– 2-5 years of reporting experience, primarily hard news

– Proven ability to dig up stories through old-fashioned source work and public records

– Clean and crisp writing style
