BusinessDen.com seeks reporter

BusinessDen.com, a startup business news website in Denver, Colorado, is searching for a scrappy reporter to cover small business, entrepreneurship, residential real estate and general assignments. You will be breaking stories about the innovators who have turned Denver into one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. And you’ll be joining an exciting startup with a solid business plan, ample investment capital and experienced editors.

Job Overview

The right candidate will be able to produce two tightly written stories per day. A knack for working sources is a must.

Qualifications

We look for three qualities when hiring reporters: a natural curiosity, a proven work ethic and a fierce competiveness. You must relish breaking a scoop and hate the taste of getting beat by a competitor.

If you are the sort of reporter who picks up a news tip in the cab to the airport, while getting your bike tuned or in line for a bagel, we want to hear from you.

The other basic qualifications
– At least 2 years of business reporting experience (willing to consider recent college graduates who impress us)
– Proven ability to dig up stories with documents (new business licenses, legal filings …) and sources
– Clean and crisp writing style

About us

Our first newsroom in Richmond, VA has been running profitably for eight years. We aim to replicate our innovative model throughout the country, and Denver is our next challenge.

About Denver

Denver is a fantastic place to live and report – with major league sports, 300 days of sunshine and of course world-class, four-season recreation.

Compensation

Pay based upon experience. We are open to recent college graduates and also reporters with a few years of experience.

To Apply

Please send a cover letter explaining why you are the best candidate for this position to Jobs@BusinessDen.com. Please explain both your business reporting highlights and your interest in the beat and include 3-5 clips of your hard news business writing.
