BusinessDen.com seeks outdoor recreation and tech reporter

BusinessDen.com, an independent daily business news website in Denver, Colorado, is searching for a savvy reporter to join our thriving newsroom. You will be digging up stories on a booming local economy with a vibrant startup and outdoor recreation scene.

And you’ll be joining an exciting, young company with a proven online business model, experienced leadership and passionate editors and reporters.

Job Overview

The right candidate will be able to produce two tightly written stories per day about Colorado’s outdoor industry (ski mountains, gear companies, outfitters …)  and a tech/startup scence to rival Silicon Valley.

Qualifications

We look for three qualities when hiring reporters: a natural curiosity, a proven work ethic and a fierce competitiveness. You must relish breaking a scoop and hate the taste of getting beat by a competitor. A knack for working sources in person and on the phones is a must.

So if you are the sort of reporter who picks up a news tip in the cab to the airport, while getting your bike tuned or in line for a bagel, we want to hear from you.

Other basic qualifications
– At least 3 years of business reporting experience (willing to consider younger applicants who impress us)
– Proven ability to dig up stories through old-fashioned source work and documents (new business licenses, legal filings …)
– Clean and crisp writing style

About us

Our first newsroom, RichmondBizSense.com in Richmond, VA, has been running profitably for 10 years. We’ve been running in Denver for five yeras. And we are solidly profitable.

About Denver

Denver is a fantastic place to live and report – with major league sports, 300 days of sunshine and of course world-class, four-season recreation.

Compensation

Pay based upon experience.

To Apply

Please send a cover letter explaining why you are the best candidate for this position to Aaron@businessden.com. Please explain both your business reporting highlights and your interest in the beat and include 3-5 clips of your hard news business writing. And tell us the biggest scoop you’ve broken and how you landed it.
