BusinessDen.com, a startup business news website in Denver, Colorado, is searching for an experienced and hungry reporter to cover the business of outdoor recreation and tourism.
This is the most coveted business beat in Colorado – you will be breaking stories about the ski mountains, gear companies and outfitters that have turned Denver into one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. And you’ll be joining an exciting startup with a solid business plan, ample investment and experienced editors.
Job Overview
The right candidate will be able to arrive in early 2015 and produce two tightly written stories per day. This will be the one position in our newsroom that covers stories in Denver AND throughout Colorado – for example, a tent company in Steamboat Springs adding a new product, or a ski mountain in Eagle County updating lift equipment. And that’s in addition to Denver’s booming fitness scene.
Qualifications
We look for three qualities when hiring reporters: a natural curiosity, a proven work ethic and a fierce competiveness. You must relish breaking a scoop and hate the taste of getting beat by a competitor.
If you are the sort of reporter who picks up a news tip in the cab to the airport, while getting your bike tuned or in line for a bagel, we want to hear from you.
The other basic qualifications
– At least 3 years of business reporting experience
– Proven ability to dig up stories with documents (new business licenses, legal filings …) and sources
– Clean and crisp writing style

Compensation
$40,000 per year plus benefits.
