Business Post seeks a Brussels correspondent

The Business Post Group is a diversified media group with a strong technology, data, digital and experience-driven portfolio of businesses. The flagship brand of the Business Post sits at the centre of the group and is now a seven-day-a-week, always-on media platform on businesspost.ie leading the must-have business, politics, economics and current affairs commentary, analysis and opinion in Ireland.

The Business Post wishes to recruit a Brussels-based Correspondent. Reporting to the Deputy Editor, via the News Desk, the successful candidate will play a vital role in expanding the Foreign Desk at the Business Post.

Role type: Full-time / Fixed-Term Contract

Location: Brussels, Belgium

The role will involve:

  • Delivering agenda-setting content (across digital, print and multimedia channels) from Brussels; covering EU summits, the workings of the EU Commission, Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Central Bank.
  • The generation of exclusive content relevant to Business Post readers and subscribers.
  • Being the eyes and ears of the Business Post’s audience, focusing on the key developments that Irish professionals need to be aware of in the areas of finance, economics and policy.
  • Delivering daily online content, as well as longer form coverage for our weekly printed product.
  • Production of a specific EU-focused newsletter product.
  • Representing the Business Post to readers directly; as well as on radio, TV, and at key events.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, journalism, or a related field is preferable.
  • At least three years’ experience working in a national newsroom with experience of online and print reporting. Experience in business / political journalism is an advantage.
  • A deep understanding of EU structures and institutions.
  • Strong working knowledge of publishing tools, such as MS Office, InDesign and Digital Content Publishing Systems.
  • Experience with online publishing, SEO, social media platforms and newsletter production.
  • Good attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Great critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • An up-to-date working knowledge of Irish defamation law.
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to multi-task effectively.
  • A self-starter mentality and work on own initiative and take responsibility for their work.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • An ability to work proactively and independently but can also take instruction.
