Business of Business seeks a staff writer

The Business of Business is a publication for leaders and strivers. We deliver crisp, clear reporting of business news and insights that our audience can use to level up their careers. We’re looking for energetic, curious, and innovative writers, analysts, and content creators to join our rapidly growing media company.

Staff writers can be based out of our NYC office or remote.

Job Description:

  • Produce 3 stories per week for The Business of Business. These would include a mix of short-term spot features, interviews and longer-term projects
  • Develop a community of contacts and sources
  • Pitch stories internally to editors and externally to outlets for syndication and sourcing. Generate 3-5 insightful feature ideas per week
  • Meet daily with peers and senior editors to discuss content plans (don’t worry, some of these are just over a cup of coffee or tea).
  • Keep up with news, and ideally stay head of it, in coverage categories including software, crypto, consumer products, fintech and business scandals
  • Complete work within assigned deadlines

Qualifications:

  • The ability to work on multiple projects of varying lengths and timeframes at the same time
  • Strong catalog of writing clips
  • Ability to write catchy, engaging copy and headlines that are clear and factually accurate
  • Reliability and efficiency
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong command of grammar, spelling and relevant journalistic style
  • BSc/BA in journalism or 1 year of relevant work experience
  • You may be asked to complete a short writing test if you apply to this role
