Business Insider is hiring an associate startups and VC editor to join the London office.

Deputizing for the startups and VC editor, the associate editor will help further the scope and ambition of our premium coverage of the startup and venture capital landscape. The desk has broken countless scoops on the sector, including buy now, pay later giant Klarna raising funds at a massive valuation, and German fintech N26 pulling back on its US expansion. Elsewhere, the section has conducted deep dives into the world’s biggest investors such as Tiger Global and SoftBank, while also providing prescient coverage of emerging sectors like climate tech and Amazon aggregators.

As an associate editor, you’ll review a mix of stories ranging from quick service posts to special projects, longer features, and data-based lists and rankings. This role consists of careful line-readings of stories produced by a growing team of reporters at varying levels of seniority, editing posts for spelling and grammar, structure, flow, style, and factual accuracy. You will brainstorm and pitch great story ideas, and pursue your own reporting alongside editing duties.

You will have impeccable attention to detail, a digital-first mindset, and the ability to bring out the best in people.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Experience covering the startups sector, or demonstrated passion and knowledge for it combined with business journalism experience.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced newsroom
  • Proven editing skills, and the ability to work with a mix of story types, from breaking news to enterprise to profiles to slideshows
  • Impeccable news judgment
  • A self-starter attitude and strong organizational skills
  • A natural ability for telling stories in a relatable and compelling way that readers love
  • A love of Business Insider and what we do
  • Good knowledge of social media and SEO
