Boulder Daily Camera seeks a business reporter

The Boulder Daily Camera newspaper in Boulder County, Colo., is looking for an experienced business journalist to serve as business reporter, covering business and technology in Boulder County and in Longmont for the web and print editions.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with 3 to 5 years of experience as a business reporter, who is a master of AP style and will help cultivate a strong audience, both online and in the community. The ideal candidate will be a strong storyteller and will possess a unique journalistic voice.

The ideal candidate will develop a social media presence as the go-to person for news about business and technology in Boulder County and in Longmont, both in daily and enterprise story format. Candidates should be well-versed in social media, search-engine optimization and will be able to cultivate fresh ideas to bring to the Daily Camera and its sister newspapers.

Qualifications

  • Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
  • The preferred candidate has 3 to 5 years of experience as a business reporter at a daily newspaper or online news outlet
  • Relevant experience in news reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
  • The preferred candidate has a unique writing voice that speaks to their audience
  • Works well under deadline pressure
  • Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
  • Contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
  • Experiments with new digital tools and platforms

Additional information

  • Must be flexible to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
  • Must live in area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
