Boston Globe Opinion seeks deputy Ideas editor

The Boston Globe Opinion team is seeking a deputy editor for Ideas, a section that aims to provoke unconventional thinking and progress by publishing insightful reported articles. The topics will include politics, culture, social change, education, science, and technology.

DUTIES:

  • Collaborate with the Ideas editor and the Ideas staff writer to identify stories worth pursuing
  • Recruit and commission freelance contributors; and edit articles from outside contributors and Globe opinion writers
  • Serve as a member of the Globe’s editorial board, contributing to its deliberations on a wide range of issues of the day

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates should have at least five years of journalism experience
  • Must possess the highest standards for accuracy, fairness, and depth of reporting
  • The candidate should have produced columns or stories that blend reporting and original arguments
  • Experience covering science, technology, business, or culture is a plus but not required
  • The candidate ideally will have relationships with a diverse network of writers and sources
  • Must be committed to bringing voices from a broad spectrum of life experiences and backgrounds into the section
