Blue Ridge Public Radio seeks an editor

Blue Ridge Public Radio is hiring an Editor to join the team!

The editor will work closely with the BPR News Director to lead a team of five reporters/hosts. The editor will also work closely with the BPR’s Audience department to develop strong news distribution mechanisms.

Key job responsibilities: 

  • Assign, budget, and edit digital and audio stories
  • Coach reporters and hosts on story pitches and development
  • Provide editing support in breaking news coverage
  • Fill in for BPR News Director as needed and assume supervisory responsibilities as assigned
  • Ensure that all content complies with BPR’s editorial standards
  • Recruit and coordinate freelance contributors (photographers, data visualization experts, illustrators

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field and five (5) years of related experience with increasing responsibility in each successive position required.
  • Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Two years of management experience.
  • Familiarity with issues in North Carolina.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to adapt to changing priorities/conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage colleagues effectively and collaboratively.
  • Exceptional written communication skills.
  • Exceptional audio production and audio editing skills.
  • Creativity and initiative.
  • Familiarity with the public media system.
  • Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Location:
The position is location-based in or near Asheville, NC. Currently, staff members may work two days per week remotely and three days in the Asheville offices.

Requirements:

  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • 5 years of related professional experience
  • Minimum Bachelors Degree

Salary range: $68,000-78,000 annually, based on experience.
