Bloomberg seeks Athens bureau chief

Bloomberg News, one of the world’s biggest providers of business and financial news, is looking for a bureau chief in Athens.

Running one of our most important bureaus in the region, you will thrive in a real-time news environment and put us ahead of the competition on the biggest stories in Greek & Cypriot business and finance. You will act as the ambassador for Bloomberg News in the local market and coordinate across teams and platforms to make our coverage the most influential.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Demonstrate exceptional news judgement
  • Write and edit clear and comprehensive stories
  • Regularly break news and produce high-quality enterprise pieces
  • Work effectively across multiple teams, platforms and stakeholders
  • Manage the internal personnel needs of the bureau
  • Attract top newsmakers and build on the positive reputation of the bureau both externally and internally

You will need to have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in business journalism and in a real-time news environment
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to direct coverage
  • An ability to maintain and develop top-level sources

We’d love to see:

    • Fluency in Greek
    • An established network of sources in Greece
    • Previous management experience

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
