Bloomberg News is seeking an experienced editor for our Tokyo office to join our Asia Economy Team.
The successful candidate will be in charge of writing the story of Abenomics, working with economy reporters and occasionally those from other teams, including companies and markets. Stories will range from pieces on Abe’s policy changes to profiles of pivotal characters to stories on emerging shifts in economic trends and articles that highlight anecdotes of success or failure in the government’s efforts to revive Japan.
The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience covering the beat at a major newspaper or news service. Candidates should be accustomed to producing clear and comprehensive enterprise pieces and have a record of breaking important stories. The ability to edit spot news under real-time deadline pressure is a plus. The successful applicant is expected to have the proven ability to write in a compelling narrative rich with anecdotes that illustrate broader themes.
The editor will also be expected to understand the rising role of digital media and will work as a coach and mentor with reporters in making our stories must-reads for the broader social audience.
The Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
– Prior experience editing stories
– Minimum of 3 years of experience covering the beat at major newspaper or news
service
– Ability to write quickly and concisely under deadline pressure
– Fluency in English is a must, Japanese a plus
