Bloomberg News is looking for a bureau chief based in Bogotá, Colombia, to oversee our coverage of Colombia and Venezuela, including their politics, economies, markets and industries like petroleum and agriculture. Both places are going through historic changes, with a pivotal presidential election in Colombia and a dramatic reshaping of Venezuela under US intervention.
We’re looking for a strategic thinker who can position our journalists to cover the forces shaping both places, whether it’s the battle for natural resources, the fight against drug trafficking or the transformation in financial technology. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing direct reports and working with other teams to coordinate coverage and editing duties.
Our bureau chief should be fluent in Spanish and English and have experience working on deadline. Reporting, writing and editing are all parts of the job, especially given the heavy flow of news in the region. While this role involves managing a team, we also want to someone with flexibility to occasionally travel within each country and potentially report out stories in neighboring places like Guyana or Suriname.
Your reporting will serve a global audience that ranges from fixed-income traders and venture capitalists to business-savvy consumers, along with local clients such as financial firms and influential digital readers across Latin America.
The ideal applicant will have:
* At least 5 years working in journalism, preferably with business reporting experience
* Proven writing/editing skills, preferably across multiple subjects
* Ability to work in a high pressure environment
* Strong leadership and communication skills to work collaboratively with reporters and various stakeholders
* Fluency in both spoken and written English and in spoken Spanish
