Bloomberg News is hiring a reporter to cover the rapidly evolving prediction markets industry. This role can be based in New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles.

We’re looking for a scoops-oriented journalist who can break news on the companies, investors, products, and regulatory developments shaping the sector, while chronicling its emergence as a new corner of Wall Street. The role combines corporate reporting, market structure, and enterprise journalism, expanding on a beat that has quickly become a newsroom priority.

Coverage will include breaking news and fast-moving scoops, while also looking beyond daily developments to explain the mechanics and incentives behind these market. We’ll examine what their growth means for markets, the financial industry, sports and entertainment — and retail speculation that blurs the lines between investing and gambling. The beat sits within Bloomberg’s coverage of digital assets, markets, regulation, and finance, offering the opportunity to collaborate across teams covering everything from Washington and Wall Street to digital technology and global markets.

Areas of coverage may include:

  • Prediction market platforms and exchanges
  • Corporate strategy, fundraising, and industry competition
  • Market structure, liquidity, pricing, and trading mechanics
  • Profiles of Wall Street executives, traders, investors, and policymakers
  • Regulation, legal affairs, and public policy

The ideal candidate will have exceptional sourcing, strong news judgement, and the ability to translate complex financial and regulatory issues into clear, authoritative journalism. They should be equally comfortable chasing exclusives, analyzing markets, and producing deeply reported features on the personalities, companies, and forces reshaping the industry
