We are seeking an experienced digital editor to help shape and showcase the biggest stories of the day for our growing digital audience in Japanese language.
The successful candidate will have strong news judgment and an understanding of digital consumption habits in Japan, as well as coverage areas that matter to a business and finance audience. You will need a record of working effectively in a newsroom, collaborating with reporters and editors to get the content sought by a Japanese web audience.
We are looking for a self-starter excited about breaking news, digital analytics and engaging audiences. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that often requires making split-second decisions, and be willing to pitch in across roles.
We’ll trust you to:
Manage our Japanese language homepage to highlight the biggest news of the day from Japan and around the world, including both text and multimedia content
Develop and implement plans to curate and distribute our best content in all formats, from newsletters and video, to podcasts
Work with our News Desk to commission stories and other content geared toward the Japanese-speaking digital audience
Write and brainstorm web-friendly headlines with the newsroom
Optimize content for SEO, monitor keyword opportunities and content performance
Promote priority content across social and other distribution platforms
You’ll need to have:
At least 5 years of experience in business journalism, preferably in a digital newsroom environment
Excellent news judgment and attention to detail
Fluency in written and spoken Japanese and a good working level of English for communication with our wider newsroom
The ability to adapt to changing news habits and audience behavior
A collaborative spirit and a commitment to innovate and experiment.
Prior experience with web and social publishing tools; Photoshop and Google Search Console are a plus
Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
