Bloomberg seeks a cybersecurity reporter

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest and most influential news organizations in the world. Our award-winning Global Cybersecurity Team covers data breaches and cyberattacks that exploit weaknesses at companies, organizations, government agencies and digital platforms, as well as the people, groups and nation-states responsible for them. We chronicle the most egregious incursions, seeking, seeking to explain motivations of attackers, how victims respond and the weaknesses that leave all of us vulnerable. Our team also covers digital disinformation, the growing surveillance business and the profound, deepening privacy risks posed by our digital economy.

What we’re looking for:

  •   You are a talented, dynamic and creative reporter eager to cover cybersecurity from the West Coast, a position with vast potential for scoops and major enterprise stories. The job involves covering breaking news such as major hacks on corporations and the U.S. government and finding impactful investigative and feature stories, with an emphasis on Big Tech’s role in cybersecurity, surveillance and disinformation. You are experienced, versatile, prolific and able to write clean stories quickly on deadline. You are also thick skinned, since would-be sources are reluctant to discuss sensitive matters related to cyber-security. The job will be located on the West Coast (preferably in San Francisco or Seattle), but the reporter may have opportunities to travel in the U.S. and abroad.
  •   You are able to produce fast-paced breaking news on a deadline, video, graphics and data journalism as well as deeper investigative stories and projects.
  •   You are capable of writing for a variety of platforms, including the real-time Bloomberg Terminal news service, the web and Bloomberg Businessweek magazine.
  •   You are a self-starter, capable of developing a long list of promising ideas, working with editors to prioritize them and then executing those projects in a timely fashion.
  •   You are organized, focused and able to keep tabs on the many agencies and committees in Washington that matter to the beat.
  •   You are collaborative, able to cooperate as needed across region, team and time zone.
  •   You are capable of developing and maintaining a broad range of trustworthy sources.
  •   You possess sound news judgment, a commitment to the best journalistic practices and growth mindset that makes you ever willing to learn and improve.
