Bloomberg seeks a clean tech reporter in San Francisco

December 20, 2022

Posted by Chris Roush

Bloomberg News is looking for a reporter to expand our coverage of climate technology. This is a wide-ranging beat that encompasses the groundbreaking innovations at the forefront of decarbonization as well as scores of clean-tech startups — everything from direct-air capture plants that pull carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to next-generation battery manufacturers, zero-emission steel foundries and lab-grown meat startups.

The fast-growing scale of climate tech — with more than $70 billion in venture capital invested in hundreds of startups over the last two years and some 55 clean-tech unicorns — makes cross-team collaboration a crucial part of this job.

We’ll trust you to:

    •   Work with other journalists across the newsroom to help chronicle the vast amounts of money being unleashed by governments and investors around the world while shining a spotlight on the pitfalls and promises of emerging tech
    •   Trace the path of emerging technologies from research laboratories through the venture-capital lifecycle and into the global economy
    •   Deliver vivid stories in formats that range from features and profiles to sharp newsletters and scoops
    •   Puncture greenwashing hype and explain unfamiliar technologies in clear language
    • You’ll need to have:
  •   An understanding of climate change and mitigation efforts, including the fundamentals of science and emissions accounting
  •   A love of storytelling, strong news judgment and an ability to grasp and distill complex information for a broad audience
  •   A proven track record of collaborating within a newsroom to break news and deliver enterprise stories on deadline
  •   An ability to think creatively about story presentation, formats and work with different platforms including video teams on audience engagement
  •   Experience working with digital audience metrics and creating video journalism is a major plus
