Bloomberg Industry Group seeks tax commentary editor

We’re building something different. Our tax commentary team is looking to add a team player with strong organizational skills who can grow new ideas and collaborate with authors and sources to produce and promote great content. Primary Responsibilities:

Employees of this classification perform most of the following, as assigned:       

  • Edits news stories, features, breaking news alerts, and/or other material for content, style and digital functionality, to ensure that quality standards of assigned news desk are met.
  • Coordinates. edits. writes BLAW newsletters, as assigned.
  • Works with managers and editors at the front-end pf stories to ensure content is strong and focused.
  • Applies best practices and assists with pitches to enhance readership on the Terminal.
  • Reports, researches, and writes news stories and features for assigned desk.
  • Makes assignments to staff members, as needed.
  • Shapes and coordinates coverage within Bloomberg Industry Group and BLAW.
  • Guides and advices staff members in their research, reporting, writing, and editing to strengthen their contributions to assigned news desks.
  • Maintains subject area knowledge related to unit’s publication(s), including current awareness of issues and developments in the field.
  • Serves as subject matter expert and resource for others contributing to same or related publications.
  • Proposes and coordinates special reports and articles.
  • Oversees and participates in production of unit’s publication(s); ensures that copy and production deadlines are met.
  • Verifies information related to unit’s scope of coverage through sources or other means.
  • May assume responsibility for some editorial operations in the absence of the Managing Editor.
  • Stays abreast of and effectively use electronic resources and other tools to perform the job effectively.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Superior news judgment under deadline pressure.
  • Superior ability to edit material (including complex and/or analytical pieces) under deadline pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead editing process on special reports or other substantial publishing projects.
  • Mastery of subject area(s) covered by assigned publications.
  • Thorough knowledge of Bloomberg Industry Group and BLAW style rules.
  • Ability to lead other staff members to develop their journalistic skills and help strengthen their contributions to publications.
  • Thorough knowledge of journalistic principles and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
  • Ability to use electronic research methods effectively.
  • Ability to use Bloomberg Industry Group and BLAW publishing tools and other technology effectively with training.
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with colleagues, sources, and others.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Excellent proofreading skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in English, journalism, or subjects related to assigned publications desirable.
  • A minimum of 4+ years’ relevant experience, including some copy editing experience and at least one year writing for same or related publication(s).
  • Specialized education related to assigned publication(s) may be considered in lieu of some experience.
