Bloomberg Industry Group seeks editor at large

As an editor-at-large, you are responsible for working across the newsroom on some of the most important stories of the day. You will coordinate with editors to direct the work and boost the quality of our writing and idea development, and you will polish our biggest stories to a bright shine that will perform well on all our platforms and on the Bloomberg Terminal.

Sometimes that means being a player-coach and diving right in to the copy, and sometimes that means being a mentor who coordinates news coverage, talks through stories, and then delivers a stand-out headline.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works with team leaders across the newsroom to improve writing and reporting skills. Reviews stories from many teams every day. Helps manage assignments as necessary and delivers feedback on stories and reporting that is constructive and thoughtful, often on tight deadlines.
  • Drives staffers to try new things and be open to change as we work to create a new culture across the news department. Serves as an aspirational role model for staffers across all news desks.
  • Manages special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Effective change management skills and ability to lead a nimble and change ready organization.
  • Excellent editing, writing and story-management skills. Ability to help conceptualize graphics and manage engagement strategies.
  • Exceptional curiosity and news judgment to unpack complicated legal and government actions and help reporters make them interesting.
  • Knowledge of digital news and information publishing operations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, and ability to show those skills on tight deadlines.
  • Strong and thoughtful analytical and decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and influence news reporting and editing.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 8+ years’ experience as an editor and manager in a news role. You should show a record of success in identifying, developing and publishing terrific stories.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
