Bloomberg Government seeks energy reporter in DC

Bloomberg Government is looking for a reporter to cover energy in Washington.

If you can break news, spot trends, profile newsmakers, break more news and write with speed and polish then this is the perfect opportunity for you. You will be working on a team of three that both feeds a breaking news wire, and also produces and writes a daily newsletter aimed at lobbyists, Hill staffers and federal officials in Washington.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Develop sources on your beat
  • Have contacts on K Street and Capitol Hill
  • Find scoops and spot trends
  • Juggle a variety of tasks and issues, always be thinking about both being quick — and then following up to tell readers what it all means

You’ll need to have:

  • Strong writing skills
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience covering energy issues, preferably in Washington
  • Ability to juggle different topics and tasks, and work quickly and fluently
  • Desire to jump on breaking news
  • Creativity to supply charts, quotes or profiles for the newsletter

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
