Bloomberg BNA seeks ME for tech/telecom

Bloomberg BNA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bloomberg, and a leading source of legal, regulatory, and business information for professionals, seeks a Managing Editor to supervise domestic and international technology and telecommunications coverage for multiple platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Managing editors of this classification perform any or all of the following:

  • Plan product scope and coverage.
  • Keep abreast of current developments, trends, and issues affecting relevant subject areas. Make writing, reporting, and editing assignments, including coordinating coverage and assignments with staff and others. Also work with staff to break news and deliver high-impact news and analytical stories for Bloomberg BNA and other Bloomberg Platforms.
  • Ensure deadlines are met.
  • Supervise staff and provide opportunities for development and improvement of subject area knowledge, reporting, writing, research, technical, and other skills.
  • Work with Human Resources to provide input on staff performance evaluations and make decisions for reclassifications, promotions, terminations, and new hires.
  • Implement disciplinary actions.
  • Copy edit, report, and write material.
  • Support sales, marketing, and strategy efforts, including participating in media interviews and industry events as a Bloomberg BNA representative.
  • Monitor the business and financial performance of product(s).
  • Help prepare and monitor budget and ensure compliance.
  • Respond to calls and letters from subscribers.
  • Explore new product proposals and innovations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of developments on issues related to product scope.
  • Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

5+ years’ experience in journalism or legal business publishing, including reporting, writing, and substantive copy editing of complex material; knowledge of subjects covered by assigned product(s). Understanding of publishing systems and workflows; excellent writing, reporting, researching, editing, and copy editing skills; knowledge of government and regulatory processes; strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to use project resources and staff effectively within established schedules, budgets, and other guidelines; excellent interpersonal skills to deal with customers, staff, and other contacts inside and outside BBNA; excellent managerial skills including editing, writing and coaching skills;  One year of project and resource management experience preferred; bachelor’s degree required; coursework in English or journalism preferred; specialized education (such as J.D. or graduate degree) preferred for some publications.
