Bloomberg BNA seeks managing editor for antitrust

Bloomberg BNABloomberg BNA is looking for a Managing Editor for its antitrust news team.

We seek a multi-talented person who can help direct, edit and create compelling news stories under deadline pressure for multiple platforms. We cover the developments in Congress, the law and key regulators, including the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission. Our news stories explain the implications of complex developments for professionals in top law firms, businesses, government agencies and the courts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the editorial staff in effectively developing and releasing digital content including breaking news, analysis and contributed content in accordance with established deadlines and through an effective digital publishing process. Duties include:

  • Manage reporters, editors, reporter/editors and interns.
  • Manage the daily production and release of digital content under daily deadline pressure with a focus on strong news judgment and copy editing.
  • Respond quickly to fast-paced, breaking-news situations.
  • Plan and coordinate staff writing, reporting and editing assignments with other BBNA and Bloomberg units to ensure that timely, accurate and accessible breaking news and publishing deadlines are met
  • Ensure that BBNA editorial standards are enforced.
  • Assist reporters in generating story ideas, developing beats and cultivating sources.
  • Partner with the News Director and Content Manager(s) in refining and enhancing editorial content according to established editorial standards.
  • Hire, develop, engage and retain a high performing editorial team with a focus on continuous learning and development.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to staff and effectively manage individual and team performance to meet goals, assignments and deadlines.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

5+ years’ journalistic, legal, or business publishing experience, including reporting, writing, and substantive copy editing of complex material; demonstrated ability to effectively supervise/manage or lead projects; knowledge of subjects covered by assigned products (s), including issues, trends, and target markets; understanding of publishing systems and workflows; excellent writing, reporting, researching, editing, and copy editing skills; knowledge of government and regulatory processes; strong organization and project management skills, including the ability to use project resources and staff effectively within established schedules, budgets, and other guidelines; excellent interpersonal skills to deal with customers, staff, and other business contacts inside and outside BBNA; strong and thoughtful decision making; expertise in writing, reporting, researching, editing, and copy editing skills; excellent interpersonal skills to deal with customers, staff, and other business contacts inside and outside BBNA; demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively hire, motivate, develop and engage a high performance work team; track record of success in meeting assignment deadlines; ability to effectively manage individual and team performance with a focus on performance management; and strong analytical skills and decision making. Bachelor’s with coursework in English or journalism preferred. Specialized education such as J.D. or graduate degree preferred for some publications.
