The investigations editor at Bloomberg BNA is responsible for helping to stand up a small projects team inside the newsroom.
Manages some data journalists and works with beat reporters from around the newsroom on some of our most important work. This is a highly collaborative role. Also, drives coverage from pitch to posting – coaching reporters at various experience levels, editing and managing their work, and helping to drive a social media and engagement strategy for the pieces. This team’s stories will cross our consumer platforms and our traditional channels for legal, government, tax and financial professionals.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Produces stories that inform and delight our audiences.
- Helps reporters break news whether it is from insightful data, FOIAs or source-based investigations.
- Works with team leaders across the newsroom to improve writing and reporting skills. Helps manage assignments as needed and delivers feedback on stories and reporting that is constructive and thoughtful, often on deadline.
- Drives staffers to try new things and be open to change as we work to create a new culture across the news department.
- Acts as an aspirational role model for employees on all desks.
- Manages data reporters and runs some additional special projects as assigned.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Effective change management skills and ability to lead a nimble and change ready organization.
- Excellent editing, writing and story-management skills. Ability to help conceptualize graphics and manage engagement strategies.
- Exceptional curiosity and news judgment to unpack complicated legal and government actions and help reporters make them interesting.
- Knowledge of digital news and information publishing operations.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, and ability to show those skills on tight deadlines.
- Strong and thoughtful analytical and decision making.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience as an editor and manager in a news role. Must have a demonstrated record of success in identifying, developing and publishing terrific stories.
