Bloomberg BNA seeks a managing editor

Bloomberg BNA seeks a Managing Editor to manage the operational, editorial, and production activities for assigned subject area and products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the editorial staff in effectively developing and releasing content including analysis and contributed content in accordance with established deadlines and through an effective digital publishing process.  Duties include:

  • Managing editors, copy editors, and interns.
  • Managing the daily production and release of digital content under daily deadline pressure with a focus on strong subject-matter judgment and copy editing.
  • Responding quickly to fast-paced, breaking-news situations.
  • Planning and coordinating staff writing, and editing assignments with other BBNA and Bloomberg units to ensure that timely, accurate and accessible content and publishing deadlines are met.
  • Ensuring that BBNA editorial standards are enforced.
  • Assisting editors in monitoring a variety of sources and developing appropriate content.
  • Partnering with the Deputy Editorial Director and Content Manager(s) in refining and enhancing editorial content according to established editorial standards.
  • Hiring, developing, engaging and retaining a high performing editorial team with a focus on continuous learning and development.
  • Providing ongoing coaching and feedback to staff and effectively managing individual and team performance to meet goals, assignments and deadlines.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

5 + years’ journalistic, legal, or business publishing experience, including reporting, writing, and substantive copy editing of complex material; knowledge of subjects covered by assigned products (s), including issues, trends, and target markets; understanding of publishing systems and workflows; a demonstrated ability to effectively supervise/manage or lead projects; excellent writing, researching, editing, and copy editing skills; knowledge of government, judicial, and regulatory processes; strong organization and project management skills, including the ability to use project resources and staff effectively within established schedules, budgets, and other guidelines; excellent interpersonal skills to deal with customers, staff, and other business contacts inside and outside Bloomberg BNA; strong and thoughtful decision making; demonstrated expertise in writing, reporting, researching, editing, and copy editing skills; excellent interpersonal skills to deal with customers, staff, and other business contacts inside and outside Bloomberg BNA; demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively hire, motivate, develop and engage a high performance work team; track record of success in meeting assignment deadlines; ability to effectively manage individual and team performance with a focus on performance management; strong analytical skills and decision making.  Bachelor’s degree, with coursework in English or journalism preferred.  Specialized education such as J.D. or graduate degree preferred for some publications.
