BizTimes Media (BizTimes Milwaukee & BizTimes.com), an award-winning media company that covers the southeastern Wisconsin business community, is seeking an experienced, dynamic, self-starting reporter to cover the commercial real estate beat.
This is an exciting time to cover commercial real estate in southeastern Wisconsin.
Downtown Milwaukee is experiencing a renaissance, as are several city neighborhoods. Numerous mixed-use developments are transforming suburban communities.
The reporter’s real estate coverage will include real estate deals, development projects, industry trend stories, market data analysis and feature stories on people in the real estate industry.
The reporter will be responsible for tracking public records and local government and building a network within the southeastern Wisconsin commercial real estate industry.
Reporting responsibilities will also include general assignment work. The candidate must also be adept at using multimedia tools and demonstrate a track record for building audience and engaging with followers on social media.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
- Report on daily real estate news for our web site, www.biztimes.com.
- Write a real estate column in the bi-monthly BizTimes Milwaukee magazine.
- Report additional real estate trends in the magazine.
- Complete general assignment business news reporting for the website and magazine.
- Shoot photos for print and online stories.
- Develop network of sources and stay in touch with them to generate stories.
- Frequently use public records to find news stories.
- Leverage social media to promote stories and build network.
Minimum skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism.
- Minimum of three years of print and/or online journalism experience.
- Enterprise reporting skills demonstrating an ability to break news.
- Proven ability to write clearly and accurately, and meet deadlines on multiple platforms.
- Good news judgment and research habits.
- Basic photography skills.
- Familiar and comfortable with social media.
- Must be a team player who will collaborate with our five-person newsroom.
