Bermuda Broadcasting seeks business reporter

Can you sniff out the stories behind the suits?
Do you have a nose for business news and an aversion to PR handouts?
Are you naturally inquisitive about how people make money and why some firms thrive while others fail?

Could you readily ask a reinsurance CEO informed questions about industry trends? Or easily explain the relationship between interest rates, inflation and job growth?
Can you identify the human behaviours that drive economic trends, or turn a dry, 30-page annual report into a succinct and relevant story for television?

Do you have a winning personality that helps you to work effectively in small teams and accumulate and nurture contacts in key places?
Have you reported hard news, such as crime and politics, and covered major, live news events?
Have you embraced new media and are you excited about evolving formats and platforms for storytelling?

Are you willing to pack your bags, leave loved ones behind and move to a new country?

If so, you might be just the person we are looking for.

Our newsroom needs an experienced television journalist to report and edit business and news stories.

You have a proven track record in TV reporting and ideally, a professional background in business or finance.

You are fluent in economic concepts, comfortable interviewing high-level business executives and can analyze and swiftly convert complex financial data into concise, lucid and easy-to-understand stories for TV.

You will routinely be asked to work public holidays, weekends and evenings, often at short notice.

You need to have:
Four years’ experience in a Newsroom as a full-time television journalist (at least two as a full-time business reporter);
TV clips that show your ability to report live events;
Radio reporting experience;
Excellent research, interviewing and writing skills;
Solid news judgement and knowledge of media law;
Familiarity with video editing suites eg. Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas Pro;
Web savvy and a substantial following that shows your social media skills;
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of financial service industries such as re/insurance, trusts, asset management, banking, regulation and tourism.

If and when requested, at least two written references will attest to all of the above.

We offer:
Year-round sunshine and a lightly-taxed salary;
The opportunity of a lifetime, to grasp a fresh challenge in one of the most beautiful and economically successful countries in the world.
NO TIME-WASTERS, PLEASE: UNLESS YOU CAN TICK ALL THE BOXES, AND ARE SURE YOU’D BE WILLING AND ABLE TO MOVE TO A NEW COUNTRY, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY.

Interested applicants should submit, by email, a cover letter and detailed resume, in Word format to:
