Benzinga seeks senior newsdesk staffer

A Senior Newsdesk Analyst helps lead the breaking news side of Benzinga, directing the desk’s focus and ensuring the Benzinga Professional feed is the premiere real time content source for U.S. equity traders.

Primary job tasks:

  • Builds relationships with equity analysts, traders, executives, and money managers to gain access to information flow.
  • Reads into the news, finding potential peer plays to market movements, further informing Benzinga Professional subscribers.
  • Helps shape the Benzinga news desk, aiding in recruitment of new analysts and focusing our real time content strategy.
  • Other tasks as required.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field preferred, but not required.
  • 5 years of market related experience minimum.
  • Significant experience with breaking news wires.
  • Extensive list of contacts in the trading world.
  • Must be intensely passionate about the markets.
  • Must know the key players in financial media, trading, and money management.
  • Some travel required.
  • Hours run from before the market opens until after it closes. Some weekend work may be required.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
