Benzinga is seeking a super ambitious, experienced Managing Editor to work full time in our Detroit based office. Our ideal Managing Editor is of course stellar at editing, has a deep interest in the financial markets, a major desire to lead a team and most importantly, the knowledge and drive grow a loyal audience with captivating content.
Primary job tasks:
Oversee the day to day operations of our editorial team and remote writers.
Directly oversee all other editors, acting as a mentor and guide.
Develop quality and captivating online content that is sure to drive traffic.
Edit stories, write strong headlines, fact check and assign stories.
Measure content performance through analytics tools, compiling regular reports.
Work with development team to develop new editorial tools.
Other tasks as required.
Skills and Experience:
5+ years of reporting and editing experience, with strong Web credentials.
Must have a good understanding of financial markets.
Strong copy editing, traffic management, headline writing, and overall organizational skills. You should be detail-oriented and obsessive about clean copy.
4 year degree or higher, preferably in journalism, economics or equivalent real-world experience.
Excellent news judgment.
Experience working on a breaking news desk.
Demonstrated ability to shape news product and content strategy.
Real-world experience using web and social media technologies.
Self-starter capable of working effectively with minimal supervision.
