BBC seeks an associate creative director

As the creative lead on BBC.com’s features team, you will have an opportunity to create break-through design concepts and execute them across a variety of mediums and formats, contributing to our visual identity and being sure it’s carried through on every piece of content we put out. Whether a quick turn story reacting to the day’s news, a deeply reported feature with on-the-ground photography, or a graphic package for an onsite video: With your help these will all look and feel BBC — elevated, exclusive, and engaging.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Reporting in to the Head of Multimedia on the photo and art desk, helping direct the overall visual narrative and graphics on features articles and video
  • Implement and maintain our brand standards
  • Create moodboards and visual directions presenting breakthrough visual ideas to elevate the aesthetic impact of BBC.com feature articles, social and video content
  • Work with external vendors, including photographers, illustrators, agencies and more
  • Help identify and develop efficiencies in the creative processes
  • Review versioned artwork, approving items at critical steps
  • Compose and adjust visuals strategy to address key business KPIs of reach, revenue, and reputation to always create work that performs
  • Above all else be a creative visionary who understands engaging visual storytelling

Knowledge & Skills:

  • You are a strong communicator, both visually and verbally, and eager to collaborate across a global team of engaged journalists, editors, and video producers
  • You are an enthusiastic storyteller, understanding the importance and need for crafting beautiful visual narratives
  • Highly independent, but highly collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing shifting priorities
  • You have a passion for news and culture and like pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in design

Professional Experience:

  • 7+ years experience in media (digital publishing preferred; social content creation a bonus)
  • You have experienced in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Has a deep understanding and is passionate about visual hierarchy, branding, color systems, typography, layouts, photography and how these elements come together to create impactful designs
  • Photo research experience in an editorial environment and using key Stock databases (Getty, etc.) as well as sourcing and commissioning original photography

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $90,000-$100,000 dependent on experience & market conditions.
