Baton Rouge Business Report seeks reporter

Baton Rouge Business Report, the leading source of news for Baton Rouge area businesses and professionals, is seeking a versatile and enterprising reporter to take on the role of staff writer for Daily Report, our twice-daily e-newsletter.

Duties

The staff writer is responsible for developing and producing original content on a daily basis for Daily Report. Opportunities for producing content for Business Report, our bi-monthly magazine, also exist, but Daily Report is the top priority for this position. Daily Report is published Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

We aggressively compete with all news outlets in our community and we place a strong emphasis on being the first to bring important stories to our readers, particularly those of interest to the business community. A typical issue of Daily Report includes seven to 10 brief news items (typically 200 to 500 words total) ranging from issues before the city-parish Metro Council and major land deals to new developments in the area and items on entrepreneurs in our community.

Skills

The staff writer must have solid news judgment, as well as strong reporting, writing and organizational skills. Being able to multitask and produce high quality content in a very fast-paced, deadline-orientated environment is key to being successful in this position. The ability to closely collaborate with editors on a regular basis to develop original and compelling content for our readers is required.

The staff writer must also be able to quickly aggregate content that’s relevant to our readership and flip press releases as needed. Above all, a commitment to excellence, accuracy, integrity and ethical practices in the newsgathering and writing process is a must. The staff writer is expected to work closely with the online news editor and other staff members to contribute to every issue of Daily Report.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have one to three years of experience in newsgathering and writing in a fast-paced, deadline-orientated setting. Experience with WordPress and data visualization tools is preferred.

Education

A minimum of a four-year college degree in journalism or related field is required.

Contact

Interested applicants should send a resume, writing samples and three references via email to Steve Sanoski at ssanoski@businessreport.com, or by mail to 9029 Jefferson Highway, Suite 300, Baton Rouge LA 70809
