Baton Rouge Business Report seeks online news editor

Baton Rouge Business Report, the leading source of news for Baton Rouge area businesses and professionals, is looking for an experienced reporter/editor to take on the role of Online News Editor.

The Online News Editor is charged with developing and enacting an innovative overall vision for online news content. The role’s primary responsibility is to manage and execute the publication of Daily Report, a twice-daily e-newsletter, and news alerts as needed.

Daily Report coverage is highly competitive with local media outlets, with a persistent goal of being the first in the market to bring critical, original news to our readers. The Online News Editor is responsible for managing staff writers, freelancers and columnists, working with them to develop original story ideas and build a network of influential sources.

The Online News Editor is expected to contribute original stories forDaily Report, closely monitor local and national news, and aggregate regional and national must-read content that highlights local connections.

Skills

The Online News Editor must have solid news judgment, as well as strong reporting, writing, editing and organizational skills. Being able to multitask and produce high quality content in a fast-paced, deadline-orientated environment is key to being successful in this position. Creative use of social media and familiarity with SEO and site metrics are preferred.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have three to five years of experience in newsgathering and writing in a fast-paced, deadline-orientated setting. One year of experience in the planning, development, publication and distribution of digital content is preferred, as is experience with WordPress, Google Docs and data visualization tools.
