Barron’s is seeking a journalist who can illuminate compelling perspectives about the markets and business world through data analysis and visualizations.

For this position, we are placing a premium on original and insightful thinking as well as an ability to see exclusive stories in datasets. Candidates should be detail-oriented and experienced data journalists, able to gather, clean, analyze and help visualize data in spreadsheets and relational databases. At its core, this is also a reporting and writing position, so the ability to report and tell stories is as important as the ability to work with data.

In some cases, this journalist will jump into a breaking story and explain its context with an insight pulled from readily available data. Other times, the reporter might be working on longer-term projects driven by database development. A collaborative approach is critical since this journalist will work closely with colleagues.

  • Identify great stories from datasets
  • Gather, clean, analyze and help visualize data in spreadsheets and relational databases.
  • Write clean, well-documented copy.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel is required, as is knowledge of R or an equivalent language.
  • Ability to perform spatial analysis with GIS programs like QGIS or ArcMap is preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistics
