Bankrate.com is seeking a digital editor to advance and manage the credit and ID protection coverage for the site.
The ideal candidate has experience working for a digital media site and is familiar with the credit card industry, how ID theft can affect a consumer’s financial situation and is knowledgeable about credit scores and credit reports.
The editor will identify, assign and edit content for a consumer audience. Must have experience in a variety of digital story-telling formats for mobile, tablet and desktop. Must have experience in guiding reporters on writing stories consistent with the in-depth, award-winning, high-quality nature of the Bankrate Editorial brand.
Responsibilities
- Follow trends and news in the identity protection and credit industries.
- Collaborate with team to develop new content ideas, interactives and data projects for mobile, tablet and desktop.
- Manage an experienced staff reporter, cultivate freelancers.
- Write viral headlines.
- Optimize content for myBankrate users.
- Participate in social media, implementing social media best practices.
- Suggest graphical elements for each piece of content.
- Shepherd content from creation through publish to the site.
- Optimize content using SEO best practices.
- Ideate content packages, as well as stories and blogs.
- Occasional writing of blogs or rewriting of stories.
- Using past successes to plan future assignments.
Requirements
- Talented writer and editor, capable of turning copy quickly, writing viral headlines and working gracefully under tight deadlines.
- Strong financial skills. Comfortable with data and digging in databases.
- Has experience working with freelance writers, assigning and editing articles to ensure that they meet high quality standards and editorial vision.
- Willing to experiment with a variety of Web content formats, without sacrificing quality, to determine what resonates with a target audience.
- Ability to program and optimize content for SEO.
- Working knowledge of data for use in editorial projects, as well as analytics tools for gauging success.
- Experience with publishing programs such as WordPress.
