Automotive News seeks reporter to cover auto retail

Automotive News, a growing and dynamic news organization owned by Crain Communications Inc., is seeking a world-class business journalist to cover U.S. auto retailing and other beats out of our main office in Detroit.

This position calls for a multimedia-talented reporter who is comfortable covering auto retailing trends. A key part of this beat will be covering the multibillion-dollar world of used cars and remarketing.

Applicants should demonstrate a proven track record covering business news for a quality news organization. Automotive experience is a major plus, but not mandatory. This position will offer excellent pay and benefits. There will be opportunities for future advancement at our stable, growing publication. The reporter will do the following:

Expected to produce a robust flow of online and print stories.
Cover various business-to-business automotive retail beats, including but not limited to auctions, remarketing, franchise dealers’ used car departments, executive leadership and sales trends.
Participate in multimedia projects as needed.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
