The American-Statesman is looking for a motivated reporter to cover a new, hybrid beat on our business/technology team.
This position will be largely general-assignment based, with about half its time devoted to the Statesman’s 512Tech.com technology reporting team and half on other general business topics.
Specific aspects of the beat will include: Telecommunications (phone and cable networks, data streaming); the digital marketing and advertising sector; the local and state auto industry; ride-hailing companies; food safety; and assisting in a secondary role on coverage of retail and entertainment topics. The reporter in this role will also assist as needed on other technology topics, and will sometimes help out on other beats, including real estate, development, regional/state economics and business/government issues.
The position’s flexibility will provide great opportunities to seek out strong, interesting and unusual enterprise stories across a wide variety of topics.
The position requires at least some college and at least two years daily newspaper experience. This could include experience gained through school publications and internships.
