Aspen Journalism seeks a data editor & reporter

This position’s role for our local, nonprofit, investigative news organization is to acquire and analyze local public data to identify and report compelling local stories.

  • The data editor and reporter produces stories individually as well as collaboratively with other reporters
  • Conducts research and interviews across multiple public interest topics
  • Generates data-driven stories from conception to publication
  • Communicates stories via written word as well as data visualization, charts, graphs, and photographs.
  • Responsible for posting and production to distribute content to company channels and to print publication partners and contributing to company marketing and fundraising communications and campaigns.
  • Required experience is a bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience or master’s degree and 2+ years of experience.
  • Must have experience using software tools including Tabelau, Datawrapper, Flourish; statistical tools such as Excel, Python; geospatial and mapping tools such as QGIS, Mapbox, ArcGIS; research tools such as Factiva, LexisNexis; Adobe and Microsoft Office suites; web language such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

Must be located in the Roaring Fork Valley or willing to relocate.

Job is full-time, hours may vary.
