About the position:
We are currently seeking an associate editor to join Employee Benefit News and Employee Benefit Adviser, covering the HR and advising industry. The associate editor will research, report and write 4-5 news and feature articles per week. They will be charged with covering industry beats, staying on top of industry developments, and cultivating and maintaining working relationships with industry sources.
Core responsibilities:
Work with editorial team to identify stories.
Research and write one news article a day.
Assign story and other content ideas to staff members and actively coach them on reporting and writing, ensuring their work achieves its stated goals before publication (clear focus, excellent production values, strong headlines, appropriate sourcing, strong supporting assets);
Research and write two longer enterprise features per month.
Work with editorial staff to find, collect and manage monthly creation of content appropriate for various sections of the website and print issue.
Copy edit and proof content, including freelance, contributed and staff-written articles.
Work with editor to curate daily and weekly newsletters.
Contribute social media content
Additional responsibilities:
Associate editors for Employee Benefit News and Employee Benefit Adviser are expected to contribute to and participate in all channels and platforms in which we engage our readers. Those activities include:
Create social media posts on a daily basis.
Participate in digital media, including podcasts, web seminars, video interviews, and so on.
Participate in live and virtual events hosted by Employee Benefit News and Employee Benefit Adviser and other Arizent brands.
Job Requirements:
Preferred candidates will have the following attributes:
A passion for benefits industry reporting. Candidates with demonstrated experience covering HR, advising, health care and workplace trends will be advantaged.
3-5 years of experience in reporting, preferably in a news environment
Experience in managing teams of reporters and contributors, both internal and external.
Detail-oriented approach with excellent organization and prioritization skills.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to write with clarity, insight, and depth in a timely manner
A track record of working well under tight deadlines
A sharp eye for what makes a compelling news story
Proficiency in all the tools of a digital newsroom (CMS, copy editing, Google docs, data analysis)
