APG seeks a sports editor, Daily Advance

The Daily Advance is seeking an energetic and dedicated Sports Editor to manage the department covering sports-related news and events in and around Elizabeth City and surrounding counties.

The job includes game coverage, features, preps notebook, enterprise reporting and selecting high school all-star teams by sport. The candidate must be comfortable with taking photos and video and must be adept at using social media both for storytelling and to find story ideas.

The job requires regularly working nights and occasionally working weekends.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide local sports coverage of events, including writing, photography, and occasionally videography
  • Cultivate and manage sources in the community to provide submitted sports content
  • Sports feature writing
  • Responsible for all content in sports section pages
  • Coordinate special sports tabs
  • Meet deadlines and ensure content providers meet schedules as well
  • Occasional General Assignment reporting

Qualifications:

  • Education: College degree preferred
  • Previous experience in Journalism, Sports Writing preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of language, grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule
