The Laramie Boomerang is looking for a dynamic, career-oriented General Assignment News Reporter to join our award-winning news team.
Job Summary
The Boomerang, our website (wyomingnews.com/laramieboomerang/), and both our native and e-Edition apps provide daily news coverage for Albany County and city of Laramie within the southeast corner of the state. This is our premier news position, which will include coverage of: University of Wyoming academics; WyoTech automotive/diesel technical college; Albany County School District 1; local county and city government, including various committees; and courts and crime.
The ideal candidate will have a background in covering education, local politics, crime and a willingness to pitch in and cover stories from other beats as they cross over. They also need to have a hunger to tell large-scale investigative stories that include visual and digital components, as well as personal, community feature stories.
Job Functions
The successful candidate must be flexible, a self-starter, attentive to details, diplomatic, able to perform under the pressure of a deadline, and able to multitask. This position will require a minimum of five articles per week for a daily publication, and occasional regional articles that encompass a larger county area.
Candidates for this position should have strong writing, interviewing and interpersonal skills, as well as strong organizational skills, and exhibit tenacity for reporting community news.
